Flood Defense Systems Ltd barriers underwent two rounds of government flood defence testing performed at the Canadian National Research Council (NCR) water basin test site in Ottawa (2020).
The first, a dynamic operational test, tested a typical outdoor site. One 24ft barrier and a 12ft barrier were erected and connected together, then filled with rushing water using high pressure hoses to a depth of 3ft of water in the containment area.
The second, a stress test, tested FDSL air-inflated flood barriers under an extreme conditions to test up to 4 ft of water and one foot waves.
Findings:
Barriers were set up in under 12 labour-hours and used 58 sandbags versus 60 labor-hours and over 1200 bags for a sandbag wall equivalent.
Flood Defense System air-inflated barriers final test and validation - National Research Council of Canada.
Only 12 labour hours and 58 sandbags were used to set up this configuration. Versus 60+ labour hours and over 1200 sandbags, for a sandbag wall of the same height and length.
